In the article, it says that "Canada will never be a "party" or supporter to torture". This was a statement made by the Defense Minister, Harjit Sajj after meeting up with the U.S. President, Donald Trump's administration. Sajj stated that the U.S will not "endure torture under Trump" , which is a torture supporter. He also stated , "It goes without saying that we will never be a party to it. If we are a witness to it, we have a responsibility to report it, to investigate it.” He agreed to stay loyal to his Canadian military and values and believes that torturing isn't the right way to get the answers we need. The executive direct and general council of Canadian Civil Liberties Association agreed with Sajj words but thinks that in order to obtain certain information, torture may be necessary.
I think that this article informed me about Donald Trump's perspective on the torturing but I feel like this will come out of pocket meaning he will abuse the true meaning of torture. Torturing terrorist and people who could/may cause harm to anyone in the U.S should be the last thing you should use in order to get answers.
This event may effect Canada and its government because this may cause a conflict or dispute based on their opinions. People may feel like torturing might be necessary then there are people who believe that torturing shouldn't be used as a tactic to get answers. Whether or not the government feels like it is necessary to torture, those who haven't complied or agree to their Canadian values will be punished.
